“The good o’l days.” You remember those days; collegiate love blossoming while you attend classes and go to football games. For this couple, their love was all the same but while you were in the stands, they were on the field cheering on the team. As we photographed this couple along UVA’s beautiful campus, their love story unfolded. Our last stop was the tree, where in earlier years, Ryan and Stephanie had carved their initials. This symbol of love made us love the story of their courtship even more.

Kenny & Brittney

Kenny and Brittney’s engagement session took place at the beautiful and historic, Tuckahoe Plantation. (Which is the childhood home of Thomas Jefferson.) Of course, we are suckers for any gorgeous scenery but this one in particular took our breath away. Great tree lines and fields as far as the eye could see were just some of the beauty that surrounded us. We also have a soft spot in our hearts for animals (particularly dogs) and when Kenny and Brittney greeted us with their puppy in arms, we were delighted. We think their save the date has to be the cutest we’ve seen in quite some time!

Anthony & Katie

Anthony and Katie’s relationship involves a story full of beautiful places, incredible memories, and a sweet love. Their relationship began at the Supreme Court building of our nation’s capital. Although Anthony had to work hard to get Katie’s attention, his efforts soon paid off and a love between them developed. During the shoot, Anthony and Katie showed us around D.C. and as they did we quickly learned that these were not just monuments and landmarks we were looking at, but rather integral parts of the love story of this couple. It was hard to leave Anthony and Katie without feeling a renewed sense of love ourselves. Throughout the day, Anthony chivalrously opened every door for Katie and as we walked down the streets, Katie would gently takes Anthony’s hand into her own. Reminding us of the small things that make love so sweet.

Love, gentleness, and kindness. Three words that define the greatest of relationships. Tim and Melanie’s relationship exudes these characteristics. The love between them is so evident; you just can’t help but notice it. Melanie is a dear friend we saw it as an honor to be able to capture the sweet love between her and Tim. Some people you meet and instantly they make you feel like friends. This has never been more true than with Ariel and Thomas. Not only do they deeply love each other, but also everyone around them. During this shoot we got to see just how kind and fun loving this couple is and we think these pictures speak for themselves in saying that Ariel and Thomas are a pretty special couple.

Kenny & Erin – Country Love

You try to plan ahead. You strategize, you scheme. You figure out every last detail so nothing goes wrong. You’re ready, you’re set… You’re in trouble. The day of Kenny and Erin’s engagement started off slightly less smoothly than anticipated. Custom ring pick-up complications? Check. Chance of rain? Awesome. Raging hot day? Bring it on. It was game day for Kenny, and nothing was getting in his way, he would ask her to marry him. Erin would get her ring, and it would be perfection. The rain would hold off, and the sky would unfold in all its glory. The heat would… well, it’s the south, the heat stayed. All the planning, all the diversions and secrets… they all led up to this. We set the stage, camera’s ready, and cued Kenny with a look that said, “this is it.” Excitement boiling over, Kenny couldn’t have waited any longer. Down on one knee, ring in hand, Kenny asked Erin to spend the rest of their lives together. And she said yes. Sharing these moments with Kenny and Erin were unforgettable, and we never get tired of it. All the happiness in the world to you both, and then some!

Recently, I had the privilege of photographing one of my dearest and truest friends, Cierra, and her fiance, Justin, on Paradise Island in the Bahamas. Cierra and I attended the same college together in upstate NY, and it was there that we bonded instantly. It has been said that you’re lucky if you have one best friend in your lifetime. Well, I don’t believe in luck. Cierra has been a gift from God in my life, and nothing short of it. That being said, I’ve always wanted the very best for her, and when Justin entered the picture, I made it my job to see whether this guy was the real deal or not.

Long story short and nearly two years later, its no longer about whether I see them together… because I can’t see these two apart. The ring, as stunning as it is, was nothing compared to the smile Cierra flashed as she gave me the news that Justin had proposed. So, get here fast August! These two couldn’t be more ready for their big day.

Trip & Sydney – The Great Outdoors

Sydeny’s family’s farm was a dream location for Mykkah Photography; the great outdoors is an understatement. Their property stretched on endlessly; with forests, barns and docks- there were a plethora of locations to use for Trip and Syndey’s session. This down to earth couple was a pleasure to shoot and their love for one another is evident throughout their pictures. We are looking forward to Trip and Sydeny’s wedding!

Chris & Roshelle – Belle Isle – Richmond, VA

After talking with Roshelle, we learned that she wanted her and Chris’ engagement session to have an outdoor and city feel. She suggested Belle Isle, which in our opinion was the perfect fit for what she had in mind. We loved the lines of the concrete bridge pictured below with the natural beauty of the woods and river behind. We were so excited to give Roshelle and Chris such a great variety of pictures and we loved every second shooting them.

Diego & Nichelle – Crabtree Falls in Love

We had waited and waited, but fall was finally in full effect! Diego and Nichelle were ready to smile as well as be a little adventurous, so I knew that this session had to be epic. If you’re ever in the area of Crabtree Falls it’s a must see -which is why I thought it’d pair perfectly with this wonderful couple and their desire for outdoor photos. I love every aspect of fall from the temperature to the colors and Diego and Nichelle’s warm personalities are accurately reflected by the beautiful images below… What a great couple, day, and engagement session. Patrick & Jen – Radford Romance

This fun filled day started at the Selu Conservancy (near Radford University) and it was nothing short of spectacular! When narrowing down where to go for their engagement pictures Patrick told me that he and Jen had a special place at the conservancy where they visited early on in their relationship. Upon arrival, we headed off down a trail of which we “thought” was the right direction, but after walking for 20 minutes through overgrown spider infested trails we decided to turn around… Luckily, we love the outdoors and it was so funny to see everyone walking with huge branches held high to shield our faces from all the spider webs! We eventually found the right trail as well as lots of other gorgeous places at the conservancy. We had such an amazing day with this wonderful couple. We are so thankful for the opportunity to shoot this engagement session and we’re looking forward to the wedding!

Adam & Jessie – Sophisticated Romance

I had the pleasure of meeting Jessie this past August at the Richmond Bridal Showcase where she was the lucky winner of our free engagement session. Quickly after arriving and meeting Adam I knew that this couple was going to be great to work with. Adam and Jessie were so appreciative and agreeable, which really made the day a pleasure to be a part of. We had a fun time shooting all around Richmond and as you can see we got a lot of VERY stunning images… What a stunning couple!

Dante & Ellie – Bedford Bound

The opportunity to shoot Dante and Ellie’s E-Session was a great way to spend a weekend! Especially for me because Dante was one of my roommates during the college years, so anytime I get to see him is a good day. We decided to shoot in Bedford, so the day before their shoot I had one of my second shooters (Sean) go out and scout out a good location. Sean found a great place that suited this wonderful couple perfectly. Thanks to Dante’s romantic side coming out (which also helped the comedy aspect) we captured some fantastic pictures! We had such a wonderful time and I’m thankful for great friends like Dante and Ellie.

Dan & Tracy – Vineyard Views

When Tracy first contacted me and told me that she was getting married in a vineyard I tried to contain my pure excitement! What more could someone ask for than shooting a wedding in vineyard ON TOP OF A MOUNTAIN?! I was so excited about this opportunity and after meeting with Dan and Tracy for a consultation, I knew it was meant to be. On the day of the shoot we had such a great time and laughed more than we probably should have, but we had an incredible time. Once we started shooting and Tracy and Dan got they’re picture faces on, we strolled all over the vineyard and captured some amazing images! About two hours in we decided to drive around in an attempt to mix up the backdrop and spotted an old barn that would be perfect. I’m sometimes hesitant to go on unplanned excursions with my couples, but Tracy was in the field before we could get out of the car, so I knew they were down! After getting permission from the little old lady who owned the barn, we marched up to it and got some images that made it all worth it. What a great day with a great couple!

Chris & Kristina – Love from afar

This lovely couple is not only good looking, but they’re pretty cool too. Chris and Kristina are actually friends who’ve recently gotten engaged and were coming in to town to attend a bridal shower for my sister-in-law (well at least Kristina was). Kristina had shown interest in having us shoot their wedding, so we decided to set up an engagement session and squeeze it in while they were in town. After they had just finished driving 6 hours from Pittsburg, we got them back in the car and hit up the Lynchburg country side looking for a good location. After about an hour of driving we found a pretty little spot on the side of a backroad, climbed a barbed wire fence, avoided some big o’l cow pies, and started shooting. They were great, the session went awesome, and we got some fantastic pictures! We are incredibly excited for their wedding next year!

John & Allee – Out and about

John and Allee probably felt more like conquistadors as we shuttled them around the entire city of Roanoke, but hey the proof is in the pudding with this session! We started off downtown with this dynamic duo and basically hit everywhere in between including the transportation museum, the Roanoke Star, a local park, and an unintentional spot downtown where the homeless people gather. We laughed a lot (a common theme with us) and two times I caught my assistant dancing behind me while he thought I wasn’t looking in order to make our couple laugh. Our sessions are always so much fun and when you combine that with two kind and outgoing people like John and Allee- it’s a sure win situation! Their pictures are nothing less than a reflection of who they are, two beautiful people inside and out.

Alex & Kristin – VMI + a girl and a guy

We had such a wonderful time with Alex and Kristin as we shot their engagement session on the gorgeous campus of VMI in Lexington, Virginia. Not only was it a beautiful day, but Alex being a VMI graduate filled us in on some hilarious not so traditional “traditions” as well as some of VMI’s richest. We spent most of the day laughing and talking while their down to earth personalities made us feel like old friends. It was an awesome day and we even got to see a four-star general land in his helicopter as Alex and Kristin were off changing outfits! This day was a blast and we’d do it again in a heart beat!

Stephen & Kandice- Old world affection

Beautiful outdoor scenery, a cute couple in love, and a vintage vibe… Um can you say DREAM SESSION! I knew we had to think of the perfect setting for these two, but after hearing that we had a thunderstorm warning it looked like we were going to get rained out. Luckily Stephen and Kandice were an adventurous duo and when we proposed the idea of trying to outrun the rain they jumped on it! We headed east (which was the only direction that appeared to be dry) as we watched the radar map on our cell phones praying for no rain! Thankfully the rain let up around Richmond and a fox hunt was in store! The Deep Run Hunt Club was our destination and while we had an amazing time taking in the scenery and laughing it up, we had even a better time getting to know Stephen and Kandice. Great people, great pictures, and a great day all together!

Matt & Lindsey- Good sports

We met Lindsey at a local bridal fair and she was the winner of our free engagement session. We were delighted to get the opportunity to shoot this session with her and her fiance, Matt. Upon meeting the couple, we learned that Matt didn’t really like to take pictures. But being the good man that he is, he put on a smile and did this for Lindsey. Boy, are we glad that he did- because these pictures turned out beautiful! Little did they know, they’d be climbing through small alley ways and up hills (in her heels). This fun loving couple did it all and with a good attitude!

Scott & Allison- Running from the rain

Throughout this shoot we spent the day quite literally running from the rain. Despite the weather, Allison and Scott’s warm personalities continued to show through and made this day memorable to the last drop. Recently Mykkah photography has been experimenting with some new “experiential” techniques of which Scott and Allison were participants. These techniques not only allow our couples to get some killer pictures, but also to reignite the love and passion which brought them together in the first place. Allison and Scott were one of the first couples that we tried these techniques with and as these pictures show, we were able to capture their genuine love for one another.
